A laying field, also called a peat or collar, is a strip of soil in the peat area, where the dredged peat was dried with a dredging handle to make peat. The camps were usually narrow and long and surrounded by water (draft holes) or swampy peat soil. In the Netherlands, the layered grass structure is still clearly visible in peat areas such as the Vinkeveense and Nieuwkoopse plassen. Today these beautiful waters are surrounded by small houses.
